Cookie Policy

Effective Date: September 27, 2026

In short

  • Cookies are small files that help websites work and remember information.
  • The Rice Purity Test itself does not use cookies.
  • Depending on the site’s setup, cookies may be used for functionality, preferences, analytics, or advertising.
  • You can manage or delete cookies at any time in your browser.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return to the website, your browser can send those cookies back, which helps the site remember things like your settings or whether you have visited before.

Websites can also use similar technologies that work in a comparable way, including:

  • Local storage and session storage: space in your browser where a website can keep small amounts of data on your device.
  • Pixels or tags: tiny pieces of code that can tell a service when a page or ad has been viewed.

In this policy, “cookies” refers to cookies and these similar technologies together, unless we say otherwise.

2. Why we use cookies

Depending on how the website is configured at any given time, cookies may be used for the purposes below. Not every category may be in use.

CategoryWhat it doesWhen it’s used
EssentialKeeps the website secure and working properlyNeeded for the site to run
PreferencesRemembers choices, such as your cookie settingsOnly if the site offers such settings
AnalyticsHelps us understand how the website is usedOnly if analytics services are enabled
AdvertisingShows and measures adsOnly if advertising is enabled

About the Rice Purity Test: the test tool itself does not use cookies. It uses your browser’s session storage to keep your answers if the page reloads. This data stays on your device, is not sent to our server, and is cleared when you close the tab or select “Reset test.”

3. Essential cookies

Essential cookies are needed for the website to function and stay secure. For example, the website platform we use (WordPress) and our hosting provider may set cookies to protect against abuse, balance traffic, or support site administration.

Because the website cannot work properly without them, essential cookies generally do not require your consent in many places. You can still block them in your browser, but some parts of the website may not work as expected.

4. Analytics cookies

If we use an analytics service, it may set cookies to help us understand how visitors use the website, such as which pages are viewed, how long visits last, and how people find the site. This information is typically reported in summary form and helps us improve the website.

The Rice Purity Test tool is not designed to share your answers or score with analytics services. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before analytics cookies are set.

5. Advertising cookies

If the website displays advertising, advertising partners may set cookies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform, and, where permitted, show ads based on your interests and browsing on this and other websites.

Advertising partners do not receive your Rice Purity Test answers from the test tool. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before advertising cookies that personalize ads are set.

6. Third-party cookies

Some cookies may be set by third parties rather than by us, for example by analytics or advertising services, if they are used on the website. These third parties control their own cookies and handle any information they collect under their own privacy and cookie policies.

We do not control third-party cookies. We encourage you to review the policies of any third-party services you encounter, and you can block or delete third-party cookies using your browser settings.

7. How you can manage cookies

You have several ways to control cookies:

  • Cookie consent options: where the website shows a cookie banner or settings panel, you can use it to accept, reject, or change your choices for non-essential cookies.
  • Browser settings: you can block all cookies, block only third-party cookies, or delete cookies already stored (see the next section).
  • Private browsing: private or incognito windows typically delete cookies and session storage when you close them.
  • Advertising controls: many advertising providers offer their own ad settings, and industry opt-out tools may be available in your region.

If you block or delete cookies, the Rice Purity Test will still work, but some other parts of the website may not function as intended, and you may need to set your preferences again.

8. Browser cookie controls

Most browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies. Menu names can vary between versions and devices, so if you can’t find these options, search your browser’s help pages for “cookies.”

Google Chrome

Open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies or Delete browsing data.

Mozilla Firefox

Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.

Safari

On Mac, open Settings, then Privacy. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then Safari.

Microsoft Edge

Open Settings, then Cookies and site permissions, or Privacy, search, and services.

Deleting cookies does not clear session storage in every browser. To clear the Rice Purity Test’s saved progress, close the tab or select “Reset test” in the tool.

9. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add, change, or remove analytics, advertising, or other services. When we do, we will change the Effective Date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check this page periodically.

10. Contact information

If you have questions about this Cookie Policy or how cookies are used on the website, please reach out through our Contact page. For more about how we handle information, see our Privacy Policy.
